Big Island Ziplines

The Big Island is the right place to be if you’re looking for a ziplining adventure filled with lush rainforest, towering waterfalls, and expansive ocean views. Ziplining provides an unmatched aerial view and thrilling way to immerse yourself in the unique forest lands of Hawaii. Following are our favorite attractions to experience on a zipline.

Umauma Falls

If you’re looking for a unique way to experience Umaumau Falls, this 9-line zipline spanning over two miles is an invigorating adventure for both beginners and experts alike. It includes an extra long 2,060 foot dual zipline and crossing a 200-foot suspension bridge over a river gorge and lava tube. You’ll be able to see the top of Mauna Kea on a clear day and zip by 14 waterfalls, including Umaumau Falls where we will stop at a private lookout for a closer view. The tour runs between 1.5 to 3 hours long, rain or shine.

North Kohala

This ziplining tour and canopy adventure offers majestic views of the Kohala coastline and the island of Maui in the distance. It starts with an off-road drive in a 6WD Pinzgauer and includes 9 lines and 5 sky bridges on a private nature reserve, immersed in the rainforest and away from the crowds. There is an option to follow your zip with a refreshing dip in a private waterfall and enjoy a picnic in Pololu Valley. GoPro camera rentals are available and the tour is 2.5 to 3 hours from start to finish.

Akaka & KoleKole Falls

Explore the Hamakua Coast with this zipline adventure that beings near Akaka Falls State Park in Honomu, a former sugar plantation town. You’ll soar through 7 ziplines past two waterfalls, including a full one-minute zip along the towering KoleKole Falls and over a 450’ ravine. Part of the excursion will include an interactive guide on the local flora and fauna, and rich culture and history of the region for a true Hawaiian experience. This tour requires all participants be 10 or older and may also offer a Zip and Dip option for those wanting to swim.

Hamakua Coast & Botanical Gardens

For those also interested in Segway tours and garden mazes in addition to smaller waterfalls and ziplining adventures, this one has something for the whole family. Located in the World Botanical Gardens, you’ll get a view of Kamaee Falls and zipline through tropical gardens. You’ll get an aerial view of the volcano and ocean (and maybe even spot a few whales). The botanical garden also does guided Rainbow Walks and self-guided audio garden tours. The maze is the second largest planted maze in the world.

Ziplines are considered safe when enjoyed with closed-toe shoes and safety equipment that will be provided. They are also not recommended for those pregnant, with certain medical conditions, or under a certain age (varying with each tour). Most will also require spans of easy to moderate walking or climbing between the ziplines.
